Rigid Chain Die Transfer/Positioning

Video: Motorized Bolster Extensions

SERAPID die rolling components; mechanical and hydraulic roller bars, ball bars, roller cartridges and ball cartridges, are used to ease the movement of dies across the press bolster or platen. Our push-pull positioning systems drive dies safely and accurately into their clamping positions.

Rolling Components
Rolling components integrated into bolsters or platens to provide the faster pathways of quick die change.  There are different ways to implement efficient rolling:

    Rolling on Balls:
  • Flexible, accurate positioning
  • Die can be moved in any direction at any angle
  • Very useful for small dies weighing less than 2 tons
    Rolling on Cylindrical Rollers:
  • Forward/backward movement on ground rollers with bushings to allow some side motion and shock load
  • Positioning accuracy ensured with guides and/or a loading device.
  • Better for heavier loads.
    Rolling on Roller Bearings:
  • Only possible with roller bars that can be furnished with antifriction bearings for an even lower rolling effort.
  • Also available in waterproof, dustproof, polymer-coated and chemically resistant designs.
  • Bearings can be damaged by shock loads, so use of a loading device such as a PPS is highly recommended.

Bolster Extensions (Consoles)
Bolster extensions (sometimes called consoles) are used for positioning the die for a controlled transfer into the press or to bridge gaps between the bolster and a die cart. All SERAPID bolster extensions feature large diameter rollers to ensure smooth movement of the die.  They are available as removable, fixed, swing-aside or completely mobile versions. All types can be fitted with sliding mounting brackets, and/or floor rollers for easy deployment at different presses.

Motorized Bolster Extensions (MBE) combine the functionality of bolster extensions and push-pull systems into one integrated unit. They support the die outside of the press and move the die in and out of the press. MBE also allows easy access to the side of the press. They can be loaded with either an overhead crane or a fork-truck. Since they are a small obstruction, part and scrap removal is easy

Push-Pull Systems(PPS)
The PPS can be mounted to a press, die cart or die table.

  • Die eXchange time: 15 min
  • Accurate, repeatable, deterministic positioning
  • Most efficiently combined with bolster extensions and die carts on rails

Special Push-Pull Systems
Based on the standard push-pull system (PPS) and using the flexibility of the RollBeam telescopic push-pull actuator, special version PPS’s are custom-built to the application environment and requirements.

  • Reliable in dirty, hot or other special environments
  • Vertical transfer systems
  • Very cost-effective solution
  • Expandable in steps with consoles and/or die shuttles
  • Powered electrically, pneumatically or hydraulically

Die Tables
Our die loading tables are designed according to the application environment. They can also be equipped with special lifting and positioning devices, e.g. a laterally moving carrier platform on a stationary substructure.

  • Die Xchange time: <15 min; A combination of two or three tables can yield very fast eXchange times (< 5 min)
  • Accurate, repeatable positioning
  • Sensor-controlled safety mechanisms for movements of transfer system and platform
  • Mobile tables may be removed if their space is needed otherwise
  • Powered electrically: exhaust-free and independent operation
